Pet Loss Support
Time To Say Goodbye
We understand that losing a pet is one of the most difficult experiences you can go through. Our beloved companions hold a special place in our hearts, and saying goodbye is never easy. No matter how prepared we think we are, the loss is always deeply felt, we are here to support you through this challenging time and helping you feel comfortable and confident in the decisions you make.
Understanding Your Options
While some conditions cannot be cured, they can often be managed to give your pet a good quality of life. Our veterinary team is here to provide compassionate advice and support, guiding you through your options. Ultimately, the decision to let your pet go is deeply personal, though it is always difficult, it can be seen as a final loving gesture to end your pet’s suffering.
The Euthanasia Consultation
During the euthanasia consultation, you will be asked to sign a "Euthanasia Consent Form," which gives us permission to proceed. To allow you the extra time with your pet we offer the option to settle payment beforehand, so you don't have to deal with this during an emotional time.
We place an intravenous catheter, this ensures they will feel no pain during the euthanasia and will peacefully drift off peacefully. The process is quick, and your pet will pass away shortly after. It is common for pets to take a deep breath, gasp, or release urine and faeces as they relax. There may also be some muscle spasms a few moments after passing. These are natural occurrences and should not be mistaken for signs of life. Your pet will be unaware of these actions, experiencing only a peaceful transition.
Being There for Your Pet
You are welcome to stay with your pet during the procedure, but if you feel unable to, please know that our team will treat your pet with the utmost dignity and respect they deserve. We understand how difficult this time is and are here to support you in any way we can.
Aftercare Options
After your pet has passed, you have several options for their aftercare. You may choose to bury your pet at home or opt for cremation, there are two main cremation options:
- Group Cremation: Several pets are cremated together, and you will not receive any ashes back. A portion of the ashes is scattered by the crematorium
- Individual Cremation: Your pet is cremated alone, and the ashes are returned to you in a wooden casket, cardboard scatter tube, urn, or another receptacle. You may choose to scatter the ashes in a special place or keep them to bury
Home Visits
If you would prefer a home visit, we can offer this service. Many people find comfort in saying their final goodbye in the familiar surroundings of their home. Please note that this option is more costly than visiting the surgery. Home visits are usually available during the daytime, you must call us in advance to arrange this service.
